The NEET UG marking scheme, and the 20% rule it implies

+4 correct, −1 wrong, 0 unattempted · 180 questions · /720 · 180 minutes

All 180 questions are compulsory — there has been no optional Section B since 2025. Biology is 90 questions, but it is two 45-question halves, Botany and Zoology, and ViJEEta keeps them apart because the paper does.

That last line is the whole of NEET guessing strategy: with +4/−1, a question you can push above 20% confidence is worth attempting, and one you cannot is worth leaving. ViJEEta's mastery estimate is guessing-corrected precisely so it cannot flatter you into the wrong side of that line.

That same registry records an unresolved conflict on the duration — one source gives longer than the 2025 bulletin's 180 minutes — and we have not checked it against the official 2026 bulletin, so treat the duration as the one number on this page that is not confirmed.

Why this page exists

A marking scheme is one of the few things about an exam that is simply a fact — so it is one of the few things we can put on a page without a caveat.
