What ViJEEta stores, and what it does not
Written for the person deciding whether to tick a box, not for a compliance file.
Every line here describes code you can hold us to. It covers three things: this website, the
teacher desk you sign into, and the Android app (com.vedantu.vijeeta).
Who "we" are
ViJEEta is a Vedantu product, built and run by Vedantu Innovations Private Limited. This page describes what ViJEEta itself collects. Where something is passed to Vedantu — a phone number you choose to give us, and only that — what happens to it afterwards is covered by Vedantu's privacy policy.
When you sign in
Sign-in is Google's. We receive your email address and your name from Google, and we store the email — it is how a shared test knows it is yours and how your results come back to you. We never see your Google password.
If you give us your phone number
It is optional, and the box is unticked. Type a number without ticking and nothing is sent — the number stays in your browser.
Tick it and the number goes to Vedantu, which may use it to contact you about ViJEEta and Vedantu's other courses and products — by phone call, SMS or WhatsApp — and may match it to a Vedantu account you already have, so you are not asked for the same details twice. It is not sold, and it does not go to anyone outside Vedantu.
Tell us to stop and we stop; ask us to delete it and it goes. Either way, one line to vcare@vedantu.com is enough, and you keep your account and your tests.
What the website measures
Pages you open, links you click, how far down a page you read, and how long you stayed. On these public pages it is tied to a random id your browser generates, kept in local storage — not a cookie, not your account, not anything that identifies you.
Once you sign in, that changes, and you should know how. On the signed-in parts — your tests, your results, the teacher desk, the app — we attach your account id to what you do, so we can answer questions like "where do students get stuck before they give up". It is the same opaque id your tests are already stored under. It is never your email or your phone number, and on the public pages above, where nobody is signed in, nothing is attached at all.
Four things are deliberately NOT collected, because measurement does not need them:
- No IP address is stored.
- No user-agent string — a screen-width bucket (mobile / tablet / desktop) instead, because the full string is a fingerprint.
- Only the host a link came from, never the full referring URL — the words you typed into a search engine are yours, not ours.
- Every field is whitelisted on the server: a page cannot start sending your email or phone in an event even by mistake, because the server drops anything not on the list.
If your browser sends Do Not Track, the measurement never starts at all. The site also uses Google Analytics for the same counting.
The Android app is different, and you should know how
The four restraints above are ours, and they apply to what this website records. The app uses Firebase Analytics, which is Google's, and it does not work that way. Inside the app Google records which screens you open and, with them, an app instance identifier, your device model and Android version, and an approximate location that Google derives from your IP address. We do not receive your IP, and we do not try to; Google processes it to produce the country-level location we see. We use it to find where students get stuck.
What the app does not do: it asks for exactly one Android permission,
INTERNET. No contacts, no location, no camera, no microphone, no storage, no phone
number, no advertising id. There is no advertising in the product and no third-party ad SDK in the
build.
What the product stores while you use it
The tests you sit, the answers you gave, your scores, and what those imply about each chapter. That is the product: a readiness number with no evidence behind it would be a guess. Teachers see results for the tests they shared, and nobody else's.
Where it lives, and who can reach it
Google Cloud Firestore in Google's asia-south1 region (Mumbai). No data is sold, no data is shared with advertisers, and there is no advertising anywhere in the product.
What you can ask for
Write to vcare@vedantu.com and ask us to:
- Show you what we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your phone number, your account, and your attempt history.
- Withdraw a consent you gave — the phone tick is the only one there is.
If we handle that badly, Vedantu's grievance channel is grievance@vedantu.com and its data protection officer is dpo@vedantu.com.
Children
Students preparing for JEE and NEET are often under 18. We ask for the minimum a test needs — an email to return a score to — and a phone number only where an adult chooses to give one.
If anything on this page turns out not to match what the software does, that is a bug and we will fix the software.
