Mineral Nutrition: NEET PYQs and weightage

Mineral Nutrition carries 1.9 of 100 Botany marks in NEET by past-paper share: 15 of the 793 tagged NEET Botany PYQs in the ViJEEta bank (NEET 2013–2026). It ranks 19 of 21 Botany chapters.

Not in the NEET syllabus now. NTA removed Mineral Nutrition from NEET-UG; it is still in NCERT and school exams. Spend NEET time on the chapters below instead. The PYQs here are from before it was removed.

How the weight is computed: this chapter's tagged NEET PYQs divided by all tagged NEET Botany PYQs in the bank (15 of 793), times 100, with repeated questions counted once. The bank does not store the year of each NEET question, so none is printed. Computed from the bank at build time. Updated 19 Oct 2026.

The first stable product of fixation of atmospheric nitrogen in leguminous plants is
Answer key (B) & worked solution

Correct answer: Option B

The first stable product of atmospheric nitrogen fixation in the root nodules of leguminous plants by Rhizobium is ammonia.
Q2BotanyNEET UG PYQMetabolism of Nitrogen
During biological nitrogen fixation, inactivation of nitrogenase by oxygen poisoning is prevented by
ALeghaemoglobin
BXanthophyll
CCarotene
DCytochrome
Answer key (A) & worked solution

Correct answer: Option A

During biological nitrogen fixation, inactivation of nitrogenase by oxygen poisoning is prevented by leghaemoglobin which is a red-pigment and has the ability to combine very rapidly with oxygen and thus acts as a very efficient O scavenger.
Q3BotanyNEET UG PYQEssential Mineral Elements
Deficiency symptoms of nitrogen and potassium are visible first in
AYoung leaves
BRoots
CBuds
DSenescent leaves
Answer key (D) & worked solution

Correct answer: Option D

The deficiency of potassium in plants is first visible in the leaves. They start turning yellow and brown scorches are also seen. Similarly, the first symptoms of nitrogen deficiency in plants are also observed in the yellowing of leaves. This is because plants are unable to make enough chlorophyll and hence start appearing pale green or yellow. The deficiency symptoms of nitrogen and potassium are characteristically seen in the old and senescent leaves of the plants. This is because plants generally move the nutrients from older parts to the younger leaves and hence deficiency symptoms are seen in senescent leaves first.
Q4BotanyNEET UG PYQMetabolism of Nitrogen
Which of following organisms cannot fix nitrogen? A. Azotobacter B. Oscillatoria C. Anabaena D. Volvox E. Nostoc Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
AB only
BE only
CA only
DD only
Answer key (D) & worked solution

Correct answer: Option D

Cyanobacteria such as Anabaena, Nostoc and Oscillatoria are N fixing cyanobacteria. Azotobacteria is a free living N fixing bacteria. Volvox is not involved in N fixing.
Q5BotanyNEET UG PYQMetabolism of Nitrogen
Thiobacillus is a group of bacteria helpful in carrying out
AChemoautotrophic fixation
BNitrification
CDenitrification
DNitrogen fixation
Answer key (C) & worked solution

Correct answer: Option C

Thiobacillus denitrificans cause denitrification i.e., conversion of oxides of nitrogen to free N.
Q6BotanyNEET UG PYQMetabolism of Nitrogen
Match list I with list II. List IList II(a) Nitrococcus(i)Denitrification(b) Rhizobium(ii)Conversion of ammonia to nitrite(c) Thiobacillus(iii)Conversion of nitrite to nitrate(d) Nitrobacter(iv)Conversion of atmospheric nitrogen to ammonia
A(a) - (iii); (b) - (i); (c) - (iv); (d) - (ii)
B(a) - (iv); (b) - (iii); (c) - (ii); (d) - (i)
C(a) - (ii); (b) - (iv); (c) - (i); (d) - (iii)
D(a) - (i); (b) - (ii); (c) - (iii); (d) - (iv)
Answer key (C) & worked solution

Correct answer: Option C

Ammonia is first oxidized to nitrite by the bacteria Nitrosomonas and/or Nitrococcus. Rhizobium helps the conversion of atmospheric nitrogen to ammonia. The nitrite is further oxidized to nitrate with the help of the bacterium Nitrobacter.

Denitrification is carried by bacteria Pseudomonas and Thiobacillus.
Q7BotanyNEET UG PYQMechanism of Absorption of Elements
In which of the following forms is iron absorbed by plants?
AFree element
BFerrous
CFerric
DBoth ferric and ferrous
Answer key (C) & worked solution

Correct answer: Option C

Iron is absorbed by plants in the form of ferric ions. However, plants in the acidic soil can absorb iron in ferrous (Fe) as well as ferric (Fe) form. Hence, ferric is the correct option. It is an important constituent of proteins involved in the transfer of electrons like ferredoxin and cytochromes.
Q8BotanyNEET UG PYQEssential Mineral Elements
In which of the following, all three are macronutrients?
ABoron, zinc and manganese
BIron, copper and molybdenum
CMolybdenum, magnesium and manganese
DNitrogen, calcium and phosphorus
Answer key (D) & worked solution

Correct answer: Option D

In relatively large amounts, the soil supplies nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and sulfur; these are often called the macronutrients. In relatively small amounts, the soil supplies iron, manganese, boron, molybdenum, copper, zinc, chlorine, and cobalt, the so-called micronutrients. Nutrients must be available not only in sufficient amounts but also in appropriate ratios.

Why does Mineral Nutrition show "–" until you answer 3 questions?

Unknown is not zero. Until you answer at least 3 graded questions in Mineral Nutrition, ViJEEta shows – instead of a zero or a 50% default. Book exercises can raise chapter mastery up to 0.60, adaptive practice up to 0.75, and only a timed chapter test or mock can certify 0.80 and above.

What happens when you test Mineral Nutrition?

Every chapter test is 25 questions. It starts at moderate difficulty and adapts after each saved answer. If you open a solution before answering, that attempt earns no credit, so your mastery stays honest.
