A question paper is four decisions

Not "thirty good questions". Four decisions, and the order matters, because each one constrains the next.

1. The blueprint: which chapters, how many questions each

A test paper's blueprint is a claim about what matters. The most defensible blueprint is the real exam's own: how the previous years' papers actually distributed their questions across chapters. ViJEEta publishes that distribution for JEE — every chapter's measured share of tagged previous-year JEE Main questions is on its own page, with the count it was measured from. If you set a paper by chapter weightage, use a weightage whose denominator you can see.

Second constraint: only include what you have taught. On the desk you pick chapters, and then narrow inside them — keep only certain topics, or exclude the ones still to come.

2. The difficulty: the decision everyone skips

"Medium" is not a difficulty. A test is a measuring instrument, and an instrument with unknown calibration produces a number you cannot act on: if your class averages 41%, you need to know whether the paper was harder than the exam or your class is behind, and only one of those requires a change to Monday's lesson.

ViJEEta assembles each subject at its exam's own difficulty level and repairs the paper until it sits inside a band around it. Where that level was measured from that exam's real past papers, the desk says so. Where the bank holds no papers of that exam, it uses a stated prior and marks it in amber on the wizard, the readout and the paper. You can replace a prior by uploading a real past paper: the questions in it that already exist in the bank contribute their measured difficulties, and with at least eight matched questions in a subject the prior gives way to the measurement.

A question with no measured difficulty is never assigned a plausible-looking one. It carries none, and a paper built mostly from such questions says on its face that its difficulty is not yet measurable.

3. The question types and the marking scheme

Four types are supported: single-correct, numeric-answer, multiple-correct, and match-the-column. Marks and negative marking are set per type, so a paper can carry +4/−1 on single-choice and +4/0 on numeric in the same way the real paper does.

Long-answer and subjective questions are not offered. The bank holds none and a machine cannot grade them honestly, so the desk refuses rather than producing something that looks like a subjective paper and is not.

4. The duration

Take it from the real exam's per-question time rather than rounding to an hour. Each preset carries the real duration already.

How much of each bank has a measured difficulty

Because the previous section is only worth anything if the underlying numbers exist:

What comes out

• The paper itself, as a page you can print or save as PDF, with a toggle for answers and solutions so the same page serves as your key.
• A review pass — every question can be marked Keep, Replace or Fix by whoever you name as reviewer for that subject, including yourself. Replacements are swapped automatically on Submit and only the changed questions re-open.
• A question-ID CSV once the paper is final.
• A shareable online version your students take in a browser, graded on the server with this paper's own marking scheme. That part is on the Test Papers page.

What it will not do

• It will not write a question. Everything comes from the existing bank; nothing is generated.
• It will not invent a difficulty for a question that has none.
• It will not produce subjective or long-answer papers.
• It will not silently drop a chapter it could not resolve from your pasted syllabus — the unresolved names are printed on the paper's notes.

What makes a good JEE or NEET question paper?

Four decisions, in this order: the blueprint (which chapters, how many questions each, matching the real paper's shape); the difficulty (measured, not guessed — a paper of unknown difficulty produces a score that means nothing); the question types and their marking scheme; and the duration, taken from the real exam's per-question time. A paper that gets the blueprint right and the difficulty wrong still tells you nothing useful.

What does it mean for a question to be 'calibrated'?

That its difficulty has been estimated from real student attempts rather than assigned by a person. In ViJEEta's banks this is an item-response-theory difficulty parameter. Questions without one are not given a made-up value: they carry none, and any paper built largely from them is labelled as not yet measurable in difficulty.

Can I set the chapters and topics myself?

Yes. You can choose whole chapters, or go one level down: keep only certain topics within a chapter, or exclude topics you have not taught. You can also paste your syllabus as free text and have it resolved against the curriculum tree, with anything it could not match listed rather than silently dropped.
